What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a time-honored practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that aims to restore balance and harmony to the body. It involves gentle insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate its natural healing processes. These points correspond to pathways, or meridians, where energy (known as "Qi") flows.
Modern research reveals that acupuncture has profound effects on the nervous system. When acupuncture needles are placed, they activate sensory nerves in the skin and muscles, sending signals to the brain and spinal cord. This triggers the release of endorphins and other neurochemicals, which help to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation.
Additionally, acupuncture influences the autonomic nervous system by balancing the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) responses. This helps calm the body, reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
Backed by centuries of tradition and modern research, acupuncture offers a complete, well-rounded approach to addressing the root causes of health concerns, empowering individuals to achieve lasting vitality and balance.
